Job Description:

Our client, a prestigious regional accounting firm serving the NY, CT, and NJ area, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Tax Hedge Fund Manager to join their dynamic team in New York City. This role is pivotal for overseeing hedge fund accounting and partnership taxation, offering a hybrid work schedule with three days onsite and two days working remotely from home.

 Key Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance and Planning:

  •    Oversee the preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local tax returns specifically for hedge funds, partnerships, Family Offices, Ultra HNW Individuals, and Investment Family Limited Partnerships.
  •    Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations related to hedge funds and partnerships.
  •    Develop and implement strategic tax planning initiatives to minimize tax liabilities and maximize tax savings for clients in the hedge fund sector.

 Client Management:

  •    Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of high profile hedge fund clients, providing exceptional service and addressing all tax related inquiries and issues.
  •    Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and retention.
  •    Assist clients with tax audits and represent them before tax authorities when necessary.

 Team Leadership:

  •    Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  •    Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and create development plans for team members.
  •    Promote a collaborative and supportive team environment, encouraging knowledge sharing and teamwork.

 Technical Expertise:

  •    Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations, providing expert advice and guidance to the tax team and clients.
  •    Conduct thorough research on complex tax issues and provide well founded recommendations.
  •    Deliver training sessions and technical updates to the tax team.

 Process Improvement:

  •    Identify and implement opportunities to improve tax processes and procedures, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
  •    Leverage technology to streamline tax operations and improve service delivery.
  •    Develop and enforce best practices in tax compliance and planning.

 Qualifications:

 Education:

  •    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  •    CPA certification is required; advanced degrees (e.g., MST, JD) are a plus.

 Experience:

  •    Minimum of 7 – 10+ years of experience in public accounting with a focus on hedge fund accounting and partnership taxation.
  •    Specific working experience and/or knowledge with Family Offices, Ultra HNW Individuals, and Investment Family Limited Partnerships.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing a team of tax professionals

 Skills:

  •    In depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations applicable to hedge funds and partnerships.
  •    Proven experience in preparing and reviewing complex tax returns and conducting tax research and analysis.
  •    Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax regulations.
  •    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  •    Detail Oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  •    Proficiency in tax software CCH Prosystem Fx and CCH Access.
  •    Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel a must; knowledge of K1X is a plus.
