About the Role
Our client, is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our elite financial services consulting practice. You will be deployed full-time to a prominent hedge fund client located in Manhattan, NY. The client operates at the forefront of quantitative trading and capital markets, demanding the highest standards in data engineering performance, governance, and scalability.
This role requires deep familiarity with equities data and capital markets infrastructure, along with modern data engineering tooling. You will work closely with quants, analysts, and engineering teams to ensure high-quality, production-grade data pipelines are consistently delivering value.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines to support equities trading and analytics use cases.
- Use DBT (Data Build Tool) for modular, testable SQL-based transformations and Dagster as a modern orchestration framework built for software engineers.
- Implement Dagster jobs, ops, and assets to build reliable, observable, and testable pipelines that deliver data as products.
- Integrate Snowflake (running on AWS) with upstream data sources and internal models.
- Write clean, modular, and testable Python code for pipeline logic and reusable components.
- Collaborate with quantitative teams and business analysts to deliver trusted, production-ready datasets.
- Monitor data quality, pipeline execution, and asset lineage using Dagster’s observability features.
- Adhere to best practices around versioning, scheduling, retries, and recovery within Dagster and CI/CD pipelines.
Required Qualifications
- 3–6 years of professional experience as a Data Engineer, with at least 2 years in capital markets, preferably within a hedge fund or trading firm.
- Strong SQL skills for data modeling, transformation, and optimization.
- Proficient in Python, with experience writing reusable, testable code for data workflows.
- Hands-on experience using DBT (Data Build Tool) for analytics engineering.
- Experience building pipelines with Dagster, including defining ops, graphs, and jobs within a modern orchestrator framework.
- Experience deploying Snowflake within an AWS environment.
- Strong understanding of equities data, including reference data, pricing, corporate actions, and vendor feeds.
- Comfort with production-grade systems, scheduling, monitoring, and incident response.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to asset-based development in Dagster and understanding of data as a product philosophy.
- Experience integrating with financial data APIs (Bloomberg, Refinitiv, IEX, etc.).
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks, observability tools, and CI/CD practices.
- Background in quantitative environments or working directly with trading desks and research teams.
Work Environment
This is a 100% onsite full-time W-2 position (5 days/week) at the client’s Manhattan office. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to NYC. As a consultant for our client, you will represent a high-caliber delivery team embedded directly with elite hedge funds and financial institutions.
