Senior Route/Switch Consulting Engineer
Position Overview:
The Senior Route/Switch (R/S) Consulting Engineer is responsible for leading technical projects and providing mentorship to mid-level and junior engineers. This role plays a critical part in overseeing post-sales project execution, ensuring the successful delivery of project milestones, and supporting ongoing client engagements. Additionally, the Senior Consulting Engineer may contribute to pre-sales solution development when required. This position reports directly to the Manager of Digital Architecture.
Key Responsibilities:
– Lead and actively participate in company, team, and industry/vendor events.
– Design and implement network solutions for various environments.
– Troubleshoot and resolve complex networking issues within new and existing network or data center infrastructures using a structured approach.
– Conduct network assessments and consultations, including creating and editing technical documentation.
– Develop network designs using tools like Microsoft Visio or similar graphing software.
– Prepare and deliver detailed documentation, including Scope of Work (SoW), Professional Services Estimates (PSEs), and project closure reports.
– Present and communicate network solutions effectively to clients and stakeholders.
– Collaborate with Account Managers to develop and present technical solutions.
– Provide frequent project updates to Project Managers, ensuring project progress is aligned with expectations.
– Design scalable network architectures for small, medium, and enterprise-grade environments.
– Stay informed on industry regulations and standards across sectors such as Government, Education, Healthcare, and Financial services.
– Provide expertise and guidance on routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, IS-IS, and LISP, with a strong focus on Layer 3 technologies.
– Offer advanced knowledge on switching protocols, including spanning-tree, VSS, VPC, and Fabric Path, with expertise in Layer 2 technologies.
– Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Cisco’s product suite across Data Center, Route/Switch, Security, and Wireless, including but not limited to Cisco ISR/ASR Routers, Catalyst Switches, Nexus Switches, ACI/APIC/APIC-EM, Cisco Wireless, ASA, Firepower, and Meraki.
– Ensure adherence to Layer 1 standards and best practices for power and cabling (RJ45 and Fiber).
Education and Experience:
– Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related field, or a minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience in routing and switching technologies.
– Current CCNP certification or equivalent.
– Proven experience in mentoring and guiding Associate Consulting Engineers and Consulting Engineers.
– Strong technical proficiency in Cisco routing, switching, and security products, along with knowledge of validated design practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Previous experience working with a Cisco Partner or Value-Added Reseller (VAR) is highly desirable.
Travel Requirements:
– Most clients are located in the NJ/NY/PA region, with occasional travel along the East Coast. On-site work may be required depending on project needs.
